Five thugs believed to have been recruited by the Effurun Market master on Wednesday manhandled DBS Warri news crew of Linus Chima and John Osuji.

The news crew it was gathered was at the market to monitor compliance to the COVID-19 social distancing rule and the Delta State Government’s directive that only designated markets should open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays within the fourteen days additional extension to the lock down in the state to further contain the spread of the the pandemic.

A man who claimed to be the Market Master, had approached the news crew warning that they will be thrown out of the market and that the crew had no right to be in the market to do any reporting.

The so called Market Master claimed that the today was the traditional Effurun Market day hence, the market should not be disrupted.

He allegedly invited five thugs who harassed, beat and manhandled the crew.

It took the intervention of some persons, particularly women before the news crew could wriggle their way out.
